### Example

In a class, there are 60 pupils and of them are boys. of the boys have blue eyes. How many of the boys don’t have blue eyes?

### Solution

Step 1: Multiply the number of students by to find the number of boys in the class.

To multiply a whole number by a fraction, put the whole number in the form of a fraction whose denominator is 1, multiply the numerators of the two fractions to find the numerator of the product, and multiply the denominators of the two fractions to find the denominator of the product.

Step 2: Multiply the number of boys by to find the number of boys that have blue eyes. Use the same multiplication strategy as Step 1.

Step 3: To find how many boys do not have blue eyes, subtract the number of boys with blue eyes from the number of boys.

So, 18 of the boys do not have blue eyes.
